Low-Carb Chicken Shawarma

I wanted to try something new and landed on Chicken Shawarma! Don’t judge me, but I didn’t even know what Shawarma was until I watched the ending scene in The Avengers 😳 But to be fair, I didn’t really grow up in a food-venturous household and that’s ok, we’re trying new things now! So join me on this journey in making this superbly delicious chicken!


¼ Whole Cabbage
2 Chicken Thighs
⅓ cup Yogurt
2 tbsp Garlic powder
¾ tbsp Turmeric powder
2-3 tbsp Sam’s Special Taco Seasoning (see below)

Garlic Mayo Sauce (optional)
Dash of Lemon juice
½ tsp garlic powder
½ cup mayo
1 tbsp vinegar
Salt (to taste)

Place the chicken thighs in a bowl. Cover in yogurt, then add the garlic, turmeric, and taco seasoning. Bake in the oven, skin-side up, in a pan with a rack for 30-40 minutes at 190°C (350°F). Separately, cut the cabbage into strips and plate with your shawarma. Drizzle a little of your Garlic Mayo sauce on top and you’re good to go!

[Sam’s Special Taco Seasoning]
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp white pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp oregano (or Italian herb mix)
1 tsp salt
